Deborah Tomushunas – Marietta, NY

I was born and raised in Central New York and began painting later in life. Working in advertising and printing, I worked closely with many artists, local, national and international. Seeing the art of so many, influenced me to search out my own artistic abilities. Fascinated with how one could portray their thoughts, feelings and subjects, I began lessons at the local senior center, eventually studying with more instructors improving my skills.

Painting is my escape from my reality. My mind is only focused on what I’m painting and the MS fatigue seems to fade. I love to paint from my photographs, nature and landscapes are my favorites. Mostly in acrylics, but also soft pastel portraits of my grandchildren.

Diagnosed with MS in 1996, I continued to work in the printing and advertising business until 2009. Fascinated with how one could portray their thoughts, feelings and subjects on canvas, I began lessons at the local senior center, and eventually studied with different instructors.
