Bean Fairbanks – Seattle, WA
Bean has been living with MS since 1987. She was a photographer and a textile artist, but as her MS progressed, she no longer had the visual clarity or tactile sensation to do so.
Severely depressed, she tried to learn to paint with alcohol inks. As her confidence and skill increased, she explored various art forms. Her artwork has been displayed on journal covers, billboards, cards, art shows, and gifts. She has served on a number of artist panels. She has been part of the Brig Studio for almost 10 years, participating in art shows in the Pacific Northwest. Most importantly, she is a disability advocate and consultant for art programs.
She incorporated art into her cognitive, occupational, and physical therapies with life-affirming success. She believes that constantly learning new ways to create art keeps her brain alive, alert, and focused.
