Stan Gilbert – Middlebury, VT

At age 50, life forced me to exchange managing a small manufacturing business for art. I always enjoyed art museums and studying for my masters. On a vacation trip to Maine, I tried drawing alongside an art teacher friend… She encouraged me and offered to teach me to draw. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the lessons, and she was impressed with my ability. Being newly retired, I had plenty of time to dabble and experiment. Then, I began taking more art classes. When my friend encouraged me to go with her to an art workshop in Mexico, it was an opportunity I could not resist. I soon gained more confidence and began exploring different mediums and subjects. Soon, I found I enjoyed oils more than watercolors, I began expanding my artistic endeavors, and I discovered a new path for my life.
