Martha Sue Meek – Arlington, TX

My love of art was always a part of my life! My mother was an artist and made sure that my brothers and I experienced all kinds of art as kids! One day, when I was a little girl, my mother and I were at the grocery store checkout line. I asked for a coloring book…. repeatedly! Her answer to me made an impression on me that I have never forgotten.

“Sue, why would you want to color someone else’s drawings?” Mother then proceeded to buy me typing paper! I love her for teaching me to value my own art! Fast forward to adulthood…. after retiring from twenty-five years as an art teacher, I was diagnosed with MS. It was a shock to hear the news. I had to learn how to feel productive! MS “forced” me to develop my own art instead of teaching art! It is my best friend! Art, for me, is the best medicine. It heals my soul. That is one place that MS cannot invade!
