Joan Vand – Austin, TX

I was looking for a new hobby and was given great advice. “Just pick something and stick with it, and you might find things you don’t even know to enjoy.” I chose painting, and it turned out to be so true. I found freedom in painting. Joy in choosing colors, making colors, and unique compositions. Also, I learned some life lessons from the canvas. Don’t be too quick to call something a mistake. An inadvertent slip of the brush or drip may be the most magical stroke on the canvas. I learned to put more paint on my brush and not to be afraid of “mistakes.” I learned to ‘just try it and see.’ It might work, and if not, paint over it. Painting is all to me. I don’t compromise or try to please anyone, my joy is in the process, not the outcome. That makes me happy…
