Kelsey Lawrence – Hamilton, NJ

I have taken photos as a hobby since I was a teenager, but never really did anything with it. In 2014, I was diagnosed with MS, and neuropathy in my hand would limit my participation in the arts. Music – my main artistic expression I had done my entire life, now hurt or wore me out if I played or sang too much or too often. Participating in MSAA’s Improving Lives Through Art program showed me that I could still make art and still express myself in ways that didn’t hurt or push me past my limitations. Being introduced to acrylic painting led me back to photography as I needed inspiration to paint. Landscapes are my favorite form of visual art, whether they are photographed or painted.
