Catherine Hoy – Stewartstown, PA

I was born into a family of creatives; I pursued a fine art education and found myself immersed in the world of printmaking. Over the years, I have found my approach has changed from creating detailed etchings and drawings to where I am now, focusing on a much looser approach. In 2016, I was officially diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Continuing to create pieces with fine detail slowly slipped away. My hands consistently cramping made it difficult, so I started experimenting with other media and other ways to express myself. I have always been fascinated with textures and soon found my way into using wax to create encaustics and pushing my limits into the world of abstract painting. Currently, I am pushing myself to use brighter colors and expressive marks while experimenting with various mediums.
