Janet Langjahr – Boynton Beach, FL

In my youth, I took pictures, processed negatives and printed images in my family’s wet darkroom. Then adult life got in the way. As part of my MS self-care regimen, I took up daily walks outdoors in nature. As I scaled my work back, I ramped this up by joining my inspiring father on visits to botanical gardens, nature preserves, zoos and wildlife refuges. Then one of my acquaintances with MS seemed to be sliding downhill toward “shut-in” status. I wanted to help.

I enlisted my phone camera for the sole purpose of drawing him out of his self-imposed near exile. Ironically, the shutterbug bit me again, and expanded my horizons. Just walking in nature benefited my overall health. “Chasing” my photographic subject has also improved my focus, spatial perception, dexterity, strength, balance and more.
