I suppose my creativity started when I was a young child. I was always sketching my mom’s many kitties and the surrounding beauty of the small town where I was raised in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California. I had the beauty of four seasons to decide to which to draw. I won an art contest in high school and that continued my interest to try different mediums, charcoals, colored chalks, oils, and finally deciding on watercolors loving the muted tones I can achieve. My art teacher recognized my budding talent and allowed me to use my free periods to work on my creations.
I have tried going back to oils, but always find more happiness in watercolors. Many times, I take a picture and reproduce it in watercolors as I have in my “Vine in Oak” and “Dream House.” I did try many compositions of still life, but they have not been as rewarding as my first love of landscapes. “Roses & Veggies” was done using flowers from my neighbors, vegetables from our gardens.
