Hannah Garrison – San Antonio, TX

My name is Hannah Garrison, and I’ve been creating art for as long as I can remember. In 2017, I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, a life-altering event that profoundly shaped my artistic journey.

While selecting artwork to submit to MSAA for this year’s showcase, I found myself with a peculiar “problem”: I had created far more artwork in the past 2 years than I thought, making it difficult to narrow my selection to 3 pieces. I’m grateful to have this “problem.” It reflects my growth – from struggling with MS & depression to where I am today. I will never go back to my “old normal,” but embracing imperfections has given my artwork much more of a soul. I find joy and meaning in the creative process. I can be silly, I can be free, and I’m always going to be ok.
