Hilary Cabrera – Lawrenceville, GA
I was diagnosed in October 2023, a revelation that I am still coming to terms with, and I am learning to navigate this new reality one day at a time. Despite the challenges, one commitment I’ve made to myself is to never cease creating. As an artist, I am fortunate to share my passion for art with my high school students as their art teacher. Approaching my 10th year in this role, I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I thrive on experimenting with various mediums and exploring new artistic avenues. My work is deeply influenced by folk artists, and I frequently pay homage to them in my creations. Examples include rendering Blaze Foley in charcoal on a lunch sack, crafting a whimsical desert landscape that incorporates found objects in the vein of Noah Purifoy, or repurposing medical bills into layered paper-works.
