Yarra Amoroso – Green Valley, AZ

Yarra Amoroso’s art therapy career started at age 16, on an AFS exchange program in Peru. After graduating from SIT in Vermont, she led a rich life, exploring many parts of the world before marrying and settling in New Zealand. After contracting MS at age 29, Yarra attended the Jimmie Heuga Center and committed to living her life to the fullest. She had MS, it didn’t have her!

She continued to role model, “Saying Yes to Life Challenges,” encouraging others to do the same. Her work included troubled teenagers in Australia and adults with dementia in USA, helping them utilize creativity to enhance their quality of life. As the disease advanced, she continued her art with the assistance of brushes being placed in her hand and blinking her eyes for color choices. Yarra painted until the month before she died peacefully, surrounded by family, friends, prayer flags and paintings.
