Carmella Certion – Philadelphia, PA

I am a fairly new artist living in Philadelphia, PA. Before MS took me out of the workforce, I worked in various areas in healthcare as I was putting myself through Graduate School. Once I could no longer work, I fell back on my makeup training and became a makeup artist. Then Covid hit and I could no longer get close enough to work so I had to pivot once again. I traded skin for canvases and here I am.

I’ve had no real formal training though I have taken an art class online. I paint mostly abstracts, land and cityscapes, and inspirational sayings. Over the past few months, I’ve really been working with different mediums such as pastels, charcoal, textured paint, and gel pens, building layers and taking chances. I love using geometric shapes with opposing colors.

Since I started painting, I’ve found that I’m not as depressed or anxious as I used to be. When I’m having a bad day or just need to reset my brain…. I reach for my brushes and hit the canvas. Art is my respite and I’m very grateful to have discovered it. It’s really changed my life.
