Tammy Dunlavey – Cable, OH
For as long as I can remember I’ve processed an innate ability to draw. I was married, had two children and just lived life in my early 20’s, but never gave up on my dream of college. When it came to my education I had to choose between art and science. Since I was already an accomplished artist I chose science as a career path and art as my hobby. In 2001, the semester before I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s of Science degree, in geology and a minor in Invertebrate zoology, I was officially diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. All the funny symptoms and many Doctor’s visits over the past 8 years or so finally made sense. I had been misdiagnosed. In light of my medical challenges, I continued on and graduated with a Master’s of Science degree in Invertebrate Paleontology. I unfortunately realized the rigors of conducting research, teaching, and field work was not conducive with MS. Consequently MS forced my hand toward a new career path. I decided to return to my artistic roots. I find that paleontology often appears within my art. My journey with MS also plays a significant role in my work as my health experiences are well documented with my creativity.
