Multiple Sclerosis Association of America Honored for Publication Excellence

The Multiple Sclerosis Association of America (MSAA) is pleased to announce awards for two of its publications.

• Daddy’s Story – MSAA’s children’s book received a 2011 Magnum Opus Award for Outstanding Achievement in Custom Media (Bronze Award in the category of Nonprofit Publication, Best All Around) and a 2011 National Health Information Award (Merit Award) for Patient Education Information.
• The Motivator – The Winter/Spring 2010 issue of MSAA’s magazine received a 2011 APEX Award for Publication Excellence in Magazine & Journal Writing.

This is the first time MSAA has been recognized by the Magnum Opus Awards. It is the fourth year MSAA has received an APEX Award and the sixth year that MSAA has been recognized by the National Health Information Awards committee.

“To be awarded such honors from respected communications professionals is a tribute to our staff,” says MSAA President and CEO Douglas Franklin. “We always strive to produce high – quality educational materials, covering a wide range of topics that are of great interest and assistance to the MS community.”

The Magnum Opus Awards program is sponsored by ContentWise in conjunction with the Missouri School of Journalism. The APEX Awards recognize excellence in publications work by professional communicators. In this year’s competition, more than 4,000 entries were judged. The National Health Information Awards are coordinated by the Health Information Resource Center , a national clearinghouse for consumer-health information programs and materials. In this year’s awards program, a national panel of health-information experts reviewed more than 1,000 entries from across the country.

About Multiple Sclerosis

The most common neurological disorder diagnosed in young adults, multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune disease of the central nervous system. This disorder damages or destroys the protective covering (known as myelin) surrounding the nerves, causing reduced communication between the brain and nerve pathways. Common symptoms include visual problems, overwhelming fatigue, difficulty with balance and coordination, and various levels of impaired mobility. MS is not contagious or fatal.
