Houston, TX – Education Program: Addressing the African American Experience in MS Care
Thursday, September 17, 2026 – 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM CDT
Join MSAA for a free patient education program and dinner discussing the African American Experience in MS Care. This patient education program will empower Black patients living with MS by addressing medical mistrust and promoting informed healthcare decision-making. The program will also integrate a holistic approach to care, emphasizing wellness lifestyle practices that complement medical treatment. By fostering trust, cultural relevance, and wellness, this program aims to improve engagement in care and quality of life for Black individuals affected by MS.

About the Presenter:
Dr. Annette Okai is the Director of Clinical Neuroimmunology and Multiple Sclerosis Research at North Texas Institute of Neurology and Headache in Plano, TX and Clinical Associate Professor of Neurology at Texas Tech University Health Science Center. In addition to her clinical practice, she is actively engaged in multiple clinical trials in multiple sclerosis and is published in several neurological journals. Dr. Okai also serves on MSAA’s Board of Directors, Healthcare Advisory Council, and African American Advisory Council.
