Laura Patchen – Pittsburgh, PA

I was diagnosed with MS in 1998. I was the sole proprietor of a speech pathology practice at the time, but eventually had to give up working due to mobility and fatigue issues. Although I had never painted before, I started painting in acrylics. I love the way it makes me feel when I create something colorful and beautiful on a blank canvas. Acrylics can be worked on over multiple sessions, so I can put the paintbrush down when I am fatigued and go back to it another day. My paintings remind me that although my abilities have become more and more limited over the years, there is always beauty to be found, if you look for it.
