Nadine Shapiro – Northampton, MA
After seeing countless photographs of sick, abandoned dogs, cats, and rabbits I felt compelled to do something. Around the same time, a relapse was causing me some difficulty with my hands. Though I couldn’t physically or financially save these animals, I turned to art, spending time with their photographs. Drawing and painting them reminded me not to take for granted what my hands could do. Additionally, their stories and photographs made me feel connected to them. They are not forgotten. I’ve drawn close to 100 strays and there is no sign I’ll be stopping!
