Susan Bloom – Plainwell, MI

In 1996, I was completing my bachelor’s degree and in a high stress job when I received a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis. At the time I felt a great despair thinking life as I knew it was over. After coming to terms with my M.S. which included going on disability from my job and discontinuing school, I knew I needed a change in my life.

I loved to draw when I was growing up and had always wanted to learn to paint. It seemed like the right time to start. I painted my first painting with craft paint as a test. It turned out a lot better than I thought it would. I bought some oil paint, brushes and canvases and painted my first oil painting and was on my way. I joined an art guild and have been painting ever since.

Loosing so much to M.S. was very difficult for me. However, I have gained so many blessings from it too. I don’t think I would have ever picked up a paint brush without it. Multiple Sclerosis changed my life in many ways. I will definitely take the good with the bad. I feel God gave me this talent and MS slowed me down enough from my stressful life to use it. My favorite subjects are animals of all sorts but especially rescue dogs. I think they are as misunderstood as persons with MS.
