Robert Hazelden – Ocala, FL

I have been interested in art since a kid. My family supported my interest and I pursued it with a Bachelor in fine Arts from Marshall University in Huntington West Virginia.

I was always drawing. When I was young, my family gave me private classes then college really polished my talents. I have held numerous jobs in the advertising industry over the years. Then in 1990, while working at the New York Times, I was diagnosed with MS and by 1998 I started receiving SSI and benefits from New York Times.

I have continued to do my art on the side mostly in acrylics and watercolor, silk screening, and airbrush. Now that I am disabled, art has become a place I can always go to for therapy in dealing with all the discomforts of MS. I always have some of my art hanging somewhere – a restaurant or a local shop. Once a month, along with other artists, I participate in a Downtown Art Walk in Ocala FL. We set up on the sidewalk creating and talking to the people. I was given the gift of art, which I’m thankful for everyday.
