Sister Kathy Cairone – Watchung, NJ

In 1970, at age 27, I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. I now use a motorized wheelchair, which I operate with my chin. In 1992 at the age of 50, having never painted before, I did my first painting. Fortunately, since then, I have completed numerous mouth paintings including the Twin Towers, landscapes, and flowers. During these 16 years, I have used oils, acrylics and watercolors for my artwork. My art teacher for the last 7 years has been Lisa Brown who is a watercolor artist and teacher. Since watercolors were her forte and she thought the brushes would be softer for me to use, she guided me into working in that media. I have found that I love working in this media.

Although, I only paint once a week, it is a very important and vital part of my life. I find painting very rewarding and therapeutic. My time with art provides me with many opportunities for creativity and accomplishment.
