Christy Goings – Murphy, NC

I got my inspiration at first from my late father-in-law, who died at the age of 96. When I saw his oil paintings, I wanted to be able to do the same, with the encouragement of my husband who said “You can do it Christy.”

I am inspired to paint for those in my life who are special to me. This brings joy to them and me.

The Hiwassee River which runs close to where we live was one of my first paintings. Along the side of the river is the Trail of Tears. I thought painting the river would be easy until I had to figure out how to paint river rocks.

I painted the church for my Granny who was so special to me! It brought me great pleasure to paint it, although I learned quickly that a steeple is not as easy as it looks.

The painting of Montana was the most difficult and was my first black and white painting. This was painted for my husband and is a picture of the cap rock Mikoshika Park in Montana.
