Bean Fairbanks – Seattle, WA
Diagnosed with multiple sclerosis 30 years ago, Bean Fairbanks has navigated the challenges of the condition with unwavering determination. I am adapting my techniques to accommodate my physical needs as the disease progresses. This geeky artist, based in Seattle uses art as a form of therapy and self-expression.
I am deeply drawn to nature, women’s experiences and societal issues. As a multimedia artist, my work explores contrasts, power dynamics, and mood through the influence of various visual media. Diverse styles and media allow me to experiment in finding the most potent combinations to conjure a message. My recent painting, Mortality Midwife is a celebration of life, even while dying. By unapologetically acknowledging the lights and darks of our existence, I create art that expands perspectives and looks beyond surface appearances.
