Kelsey Lawrence – Hamilton, NJ
The arts have always been a source of peace and therapeutic release for me. In 2014, I was diagnosed with MS. Neuropathy in my hand and fatigue would limit my participation in my default expression of the arts, music. Throughout my life, music has been my primary form of artistic expression. However, playing string instruments or singing can sometimes cause me pain or exhaustion. Participating in MSAA’s “Improving Lives Through Art” program showed me that I could still create art and express myself in ways that didn’t cause me pain or exceed my limitations. Landscapes have always inspired me, whether they are captured through photography or painted on canvas. During the past few years, I have been refining my style and technique in acrylic painting. Whether I am painting from a photograph or starting from a blank canvas, it has been an incredible journey of growth and discovery.
