MSAA Chief Medical Officer Dr. Barry Hendin on Opting Out of Treatment
Watch this important message from Dr. Barry Hendin.Things to Consider
The risks of opting out of disease-modifying therapies (DMTs) altogether are often overlooked. It’s important to work with your healthcare provider to find the best treatment course that does not interfere with your quality of life but does protect you against worsening disease activity.
While treatment may not be an option for some people, research has shown that DMTs can significantly delay the progression of MS. If you are not able to be on a DMT, seek regular checkups and periodic MRI scans to evaluate whether the disease is progressing. If new lesions are developing or existing lesions are growing, you may want to speak with your healthcare provider to carefully weigh your decision.
