Diagnosed in 1999, the early years of my disease journey were fraught with frequent and especially debilitating relapses. During one of those relapses while receiving occupational therapy at home the therapist remarked how much she enjoyed the many photos adorning the walls. She asked who was the artist? I meekly replied “Me.” At this juncture the OT decided that art therapy would be an excellent fit for me as part of my plan of care. Thanks to that insight of the therapist, photography has blossomed into much more than just art therapy or a hobby. Since then I have advanced to work professionally as my disease permits as an outdoor and wildlife photographer. I have been blessed to receive multiple awards for my work from several outdoor media associations. By specializing in the outdoors and wildlife I have the benefit of “nature therapy” as well.
