She specializes in neurology care\, specifically neuroimmunology\, and multiple sclerosis. She is actively completing her doctoral degree in nursing practice at the University of Nevada Reno with a focus on policy and applied research. \n\n\n\nLisa Doggett\, MD\, MPH\, FAAFP\, DipABLM is a board-certified family and lifestyle medicine specialist at UT Health Austin’s Multiple Sclerosis and Neuroimmunology Center. Diagnosed with MS in 2009\, she now provides lifestyle and preventive care consultations to others with MS. Her award-winning memoir\, Up the Down Escalator: Medicine\, Motherhood\, and Multiple Sclerosis\, was published in 2023 and chronicles her journey with MS as a mother and doctor turned patient. She is also one of MSAA’s Art Showcase artists for 2024. \n\n\n\nKimberly Carter\, MD\, MPP is an assistant professor at the Dell Medical School Department of Women’s Health. Dr. Carter is also an active member on several professional committees and currently serves as the Co-Chair of the Texas Medical Association Select Committee on Medicaid\, CHIP\, and the Uninsured and also the Co-Chair of the Task Force on Health Care Coverage\, among many others.

She completed her neurology residency at Kettering Medical Center in Dayton\, Ohio. Dr. Nolan also completed a fellowship focused in MS\, neuroimmunology\, and spasticity management at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus\, Ohio. While her curiosity regarding neurology stemmed from a high school summer program\, multiple sclerosis holds a special place in her life as she was diagnosed with relapsing MS in September 2009. Her current interests include patient advocacy and social awareness of multiple sclerosis in the Black community.

The program will focus specifically on MS research updates relevant to the Hispanic/Latinx community. \n\n\n\nEsta presentación se llevará a cabo en inglés\, con subtítulos disponibles en inglés y español. \n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAbout the Presenter\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDr. Lilyana Amezcua is an Associate Professor of Neurology and Division Chief for Neuroimmunology and Multiple Sclerosis at the Keck School of Medicine of USC. She completed her medical training at Jefferson Medical College\, followed by a neurology residency and MS fellowship at USC\, and holds a Master’s in Clinical\, Biomedical\, and Translational Science. She is the founder and principal investigator of the Alliance for Research in Hispanic MS (ARHMS)\, a groundbreaking consortium addressing MS disparities in Hispanic/Latinx populations through genetic and social/environmental research. She is also active in national and international MS research and advocacy efforts. Dr. Amezcua is a nationally recognized MS champion and pioneer in Hispanic/Latinx MS research and culturally relevant care\, and serves as Co-Chair of MSAA’s Hispanic/Latinx Advisory Board.

She is the medical director of the MS and Neuroimmunology Center at UT Health Austin\, and the clinical practice of Dell Medical School. Dr. Freeman serves as site principal investigator for the PCORI-funded DELIVER-MS study comparing the effectiveness of early intensive versus escalation approaches for treating relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis. Dr. Freeman is the founder of the Texas MS Consortium\, a network of clinicians\, researchers\, advocacy groups\, and people with MS aiming to eliminate disparities in MS care and is also a member of MSAA’s Healthcare Advisory Council.

This Black History Month\, join MSAA\, along with Dr. Heidi Crayton\, Neurologist and MS Specialist\, and Dawn Morgan\, MS and Women’s Health Researcher\, for a conversation that centers on the lived experiences of Black women with MS across the lifespan. Together\, they will share clinical insight and lived wisdom on medication response\, systemic barriers\, self-advocacy\, and what true equity looks like in practice. It’s time to move beyond awareness—and into action. \n\n\n\nThis program is made possible through the generous support of Biogen\, Novartis\, and Sanofi. \n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAbout the Presenters\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHeidi Crayton\, MD is a board-certified neurologist with a specialty in MS. Dr. Crayton established the MS Center of Greater Washington in 2007\, the only full-time nonacademic MS center in the mid-Atlantic region. She has been a principal investigator in clinical trials for MS therapeutics and has been involved with developing a treatment algorithm for symptom management in MS. Dr. Crayton is also a member of MSAA’s Healthcare Advisory Council and African American Advisory Council. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDawn Morgan is a national leader in patient advocacy\, women’s health\, and patient-centered research\, drawing on over 20 years of experience living with MS.
