Teresa Crandell – Marshall, TX

I never thought of painting until after my diagnosis of MS in February 2014.

I have been an RN for 25 years, mother of two fantastic children, Josh and Amber, and wife to my amazing husband, Devin. I guess I was too busy with these other things to take time to paint.

Thanks to great RN friends, who took me painting while I was homebound, I discovered I liked to paint. MS often feels like a fire raging out of control in my life, yet I have discovered there are many blessings that withstand the flames of MS. That is what I think of when I look at my painting, displayed proudly in our living room.

I currently cannot work as an RN, due to the MS, but have found volunteering at my hospital very rewarding. I continue to look for outlets of my new creativity. Recently the outlet was painting a ceramic pumpkin that says “Thankful”. I wouldn’t go as far as to say, “I am thankful for MS”, yet I am thankful for the extra time to spend with patients who are just needing someone to listen to them.

I also continue to count the many blessings that are occurring since my MS diagnosis.
