C.J. Christensen – Lindsborg, KS

In his nineteenth century hymn, Henry Francis Hyte wrote, in part, : “Change and decay in all around I see: O thou who changest not abide with me.” It is some such feeling that I have when I paint–particularly seascapes and landscapes. Land and sea will pass away and my attempts to celebrate the beauty of the creation will turn to dust, but the beauty is actually in the mind of God, and and when we celebrate His beauty in the arts, including paint and brush, we participate in something that will not pass away. I am old now, having served for fifty two years as a Lutheran pastor and thirty as a Naval Reserve chaplain ( twenty-seven months at sea), and all that is God becomes more and more important with the passing time.
